Parent Volunteer Jobs

Colorado Set Up – The person will receive the information how to set up Colorado right before the shift started. Proper set up is important for the meet to move efficiently.

Colorado Clean Up – When the meet is over, responsible for putting away all parts associated with the Colorado system. Pads must be unplugged and hung on the rack. Properly put away in storage closet.

Timers – There are 2 timers per lane.  Start your watch with the flash of the light on the starting unit, stop it when the swimmer’s hand touches the wall. Record the swimmer’s time on the timer sheet. Makes sure the stopwatch from the previous race has been cleared before starting a new race. There is a timers meeting held at the start of each meet to go over everything in detail, especially for new timers. Timers also help ensure that the correct swimmers are in the correct lanes by verifying the swimmers name before each race.

Back up Timer – will start two stopwatches at the beginning of every race then look over the line of timers. If a timer has a watch malfunction, they will raise their hands and the Back up timer will get a good watch to the immediately. The Back up timer cannot leave his/her position to track down timers. Makes sure the stopwatch from the previous race has been cleared before starting a new race. The back up timers meets with the timers and officials before the meet starts.

Starter – Responsible for giving swimmers a fair start. The starter uses the Colorado starting system to start the race. The starting system automatically starts the timing system.

Runner – person who gathers up the timer sheets after each event and brings them to the scorer tabled located on pool deck behind Colorado Timing System. They then post the results in the designated areas. Makes copies of the heat sheet and gives them to coaches and officials.

Parents check in officer –  responsible for making sure Seahawks parent volunteers are at their assigned posts. The officer must come to the Aquatics office and retrieve the sign up list previously put together by the Aquatics Staff. This officer stands on the pool deck awaiting parent volunteers to sign up.

Traffic Officer – Regulating traffic at the Boys & Girls Club parking lot.

Computer Manager – 2 people. These people enter swimmers’ times and places into the computer, figuring points so that we know who won the meet and keeping accurate records of swimmers’ times.  It is a job that requires some training and attention to detail during the meet, but it is a job that anyone can learn.

Colorado Timing– The operator has to pay attention to each heat and reset the console after each race. Must take note of race number and turn off any lanes that don’t have swimmers in them. Training is necessary for this position but you can be trained while working alongside an experienced operator.

Kitchen & Hospitality Set Up – Bring from storage room: plates, napkins, forks, tea pots, coffee machines, drinks, soup and pizza bags.

Kitchen/Hospitality Clean Up -Wiping down the counters and placing empty pizza boxes by the garbage cans outside of the kitchen area. Empty and clean all teapot and coffee machines. Bring back to storage room: plates, napkins, forks, tea pots, coffee machines, drinks, soup and pizza bags. Lock up both the kitchen area and the storage room.  Bring the box with money and kitchen key to the Aquatics office after shift is completed.

Kitchen  – Food Sales & Refreshments, manages the concession stand, including setup. Bring from storage room: plates, napkins, forks, tea pots, coffee machines, drinks, soup and pizza bags.

Hospitality  – Food & Refreshments for coaches & officials, manages the concession stand, including setup. Bring from storage room: plates, napkins, forks, tea pots, coffee machines, drinks, soup and pizza bags.

Marshal (Gym/Deck) – Organizes the swimmers for their events. Lets the swimmers know what heat and lane they are in, and ensures the swimmers make it to the starting blocks for their race. Marshal must ensure that swimmers do not leave the pool area during the meet, so that they do not miss their race.

Raffle Basket – During the meet, go around and sell raffle tickets to the spectators. Before the very last race of the meet, the starter will announce the winner.

Awards – Computer prints out the results of an event (first place, second place, third place, etc.). The awards person sits at a table on deck and secures the appropriate sticker result to the appropriate
ribbon.
